Frederick Road Fatal Collision: Detectives Ask for Public's Help in Locating Decedent's Family

Gaithersburg, MD – The Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, north of the intersection of Frederick Road and Indianola Drive in Derwood.

 

Detectives have been unable to locate the family of the decedent, identified as 46-year-old Godofredo Gonzales Zelaya, and are asking for the public’s help in identifying possible family members.

 

At approximately 12:54 a.m., 1st District officers and MCFRS personnel responded to the area for the report of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian.

 

The preliminary investigation by CRU detectives has revealed that a 2018 Honda Accord was traveling northbound on Frederick Road when, for reasons still under investigation, it struck the decedent. The driver left the scene but was later located by patrol officers and arrested for DUI.

 

Zelaya was pronounced dead at the scene. 

 

This is an active investigation.
