Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
The victim, 60-year-old Shanming Wei of Ellicott City, was hit by a pickup truck in a parking lot in the 500 block of Dover Road in Rockville.
At approximately 12:38 p.m., Rockville City Police and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel were dispatched to the location for the report of a collision between a white 2020 Ford F150 pickup truck and two pedestrians.
The investigation has revealed that the driver of the pickup truck was attempting to reverse into a loading bay when, for reasons still under investigation, they lost control of the vehicle. The truck struck Wei and another adult female, who were loading items into the trunk of their vehicle. Two parked cars were also hit during the incident. The driver of the F150 remained at the scene.
Wei was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and died on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
The second female victim was transported to an area hospital with critical, but non-life-threatening injuries.
