Eighty-Year-Old Charged in Leisure World Homicide

Gaithersburg, MD - An 80-year-old man is in custody, charged with first-degree murder after allegedly killing his wife in their Leisure World apartment.

On Saturday, July 5, 2025, at approximately 6:06 p.m., Montgomery County Department of Police - 4th District officers responded to 3310 North Leisure World Boulevard for the report of a code. Upon arrival, officers met with Leisure World Security and made contact with the alleged suspect, identified as Vivian Stewart Nation, inside of his apartment.

Inside the residence, officers located Nation’s wife, 78-year-old Beverly Fletcher, suffering from multiple stab wounds and possible blunt force trauma. Fletcher was pronounced dead at the scene.

Major Crimes – Homicide detectives responded to the location and Nation was taken into custody. He was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, and charged with first-degree murder. A bond hearing is scheduled for Monday, July 7.

Fletcher’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy. The cause of death was determined to be multiple sharp force injuries, and the manner of death ruled a homicide.
