Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Monday, July 7, 2025, in Derwood.
At approximately 11:39 a.m., 6th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Muncaster Mill Road and Applewood Lane for the report of a pedestrian collision.
The decedent, 69-year-old Joan Debra Voith, of Derwood was hit by a car while walking along the sidewalk of Muncaster Mill Road.
The investigation has revealed that Voith was walking her dog when she was hit by the driver of a brown 2017 Buick Envision who crossed over the eastbound lanes of traffic and departed the roadway.
The adult driver of the Buick remained on scene.
The dog was not injured.
This is an active and ongoing investigation, and CRU detectives are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call (240) 773-6620.
