Gaithersburg, MD - During the eighth week of the Summer Traffic Task Force, officers from the Montgomery County Police Department’s Alcohol Initiatives Unit and Alcohol Enforcement Section worked with other law enforcement agencies to continue their traffic enforcement efforts across the county.
Between July 6 and July 12, officers conducted 88 traffic stops, which led to 13 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) and 1 criminal arrest. In addition, officers issued 131 traffic citations, 110 traffic warnings, 11 equipment repair orders, 8 breath tests performed, and 1 criminal citation.
The cumulative totals since the start of the task force include 110 DUI arrests, 799 traffic stops, 1,001 citations, 1,105 warnings, 77 equipment repair orders, 23 criminal citation orders—alcohol, and 35 breath tests performed.
It is important to note that these figures represent only the enforcement actions taken by officers assigned to the task force. Additional DUI and related arrests made by patrol officers during this period are not included in this summary. Therefore, the total number of DUI arrests countywide is higher.
Participating allied agencies include the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland-National Capital Park Police, Maryland State Police (SPIDRE Team and Rockville Barrack) and the Maryland Transportation Authority Police.
