Public’s Help Leads to Attempted Carjacking Arrests

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have arrested and charged a 14-year-old male and 16-year-old female with an attempted strong-arm carjacking that occurred on Saturday, May 24, 2025, in the 8800 block of Rockville Pike in Bethesda.

The suspects attempted to steal a gray Toyota RAV4 from a rideshare driver who picked them up in the 10300 block of Westlake Drive and dropped them off in the 8800 block of Rockville Pike. The female driver was punched before she managed to escape from the scene in her Toyota.

Community members identified two of the three suspects from surveillance photos posted on the police department’s social media accounts, leading to their arrest on Tuesday, July 22.

The teen suspects were charged with attempted carjacking, second degree assault and conspiracy to commit carjacking. This case was referred to the Department of Juvenile Services, and both suspects were then released to the custody of their parents.

Detectives are still asking for the public’s help in identifying the third suspect.
