Gaithersburg Man Arrested in Texas for Domestic-Related Homicide

Gaithersburg, MD – A Gaithersburg man wanted in connection with a domestic-related homicide is in a Texas jail.

39-year-old Luis Antonio Quintanilla is accused of fatally shooting his partner, 35-year-old Maritza Ferman Sorto.

On Sunday, Aug. 31, 2025, at approximately 2:42 a.m., the Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a shooting in the 9000 block of Centerway Road in Gaithersburg. Montgomery County police 6th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel were dispatched to the residence that Quintanilla and Sorto shared.

Officers found Sorto outside the home suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Despite lifesaving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division – Homicide Section responded and through the course of the investigation determined that Quintanilla was responsible for Sorto’s death. A warrant was obtained, charging him with first-degree murder.

On Monday, Sept. 1, Quintanilla was arrested in Irving, Texas, after people who knew he was wanted for murder contacted the Irving Police Department. He is being held in Texas while awaiting extradition to Maryland.
