Detectives Investigate Fatal Hit-and-Run in Wheaton- Victim's Name Released

Gaithersburg, MD Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are asking for the public’s help to locate a hit and run driver, following the death of 52-year-old Ganga Prajapati of New Carrollton, who was fatally struck on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. The driver of the striking vehicle left the scene after the collision.  

 

At approximately 7:27 p.m., Montgomery County police 4th District officers and Fire Rescue personnel responded to Veirs Mill Road at Ennalls Avenue in Wheaton for the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Responders located Prajapati in the roadway with critical injuries. She was transported to an area hospital, where she later died of her injuries. 

 

The investigation has revealed that Prajapati was struck by the driver of a silver 2009–2012 Audi A4 or S4 traveling eastbound. The vehicle is believed to have damage to the windshield and the right front fog light assembly. Additional evidence points to damage to the left front headlight assembly, with the headlight possibly hanging, and the passenger side fog light assembly missing.  

 

CRU detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect vehicle. Anyone with information about this collision or the involved Audi is urged to call CRU at (240) 773-6620. Callers may remain anonymous by calling 1-866-411-TIPS.
