Silver Spring Man Charged with Burglary and Attempted Sexual Assault

Gaithersburg, MD - Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Station have arrested 31-year-old Darrell Dwayne Cousar of Silver Spring in connection with a burglary and attempted sexual assault that occurred at a senior living facility.

 

On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at approximately 8:28 p.m., officers responded to The Oaks at Four Corners in the 300 block of University Boulevard West for a reported burglary.

 

The investigation has revealed that Cousar allegedly assaulted an elderly female victim to force his way into the secure building. Cousar then started knocking on doors and assaulted a second elderly female victim when she opened her apartment door. A third elderly victim who opened her door observed Cousar exposing himself. Cousar then grabbed the victim and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim screamed for help, causing other residents to come out of their rooms to help her. Cousar ran out of the building as residents were calling 9-1-1. 

 

Officers arrived at the scene, obtained a description of Cousar and began searching the area.

 

 A short time later, officers responded to a separate call reporting a trespasser on the fourth floor of a building in the 10700 block of Columbia Pike.

 

Upon arrival, officers located the trespasser, later identified as Cousar, and observed that he matched the description of the suspect involved in the earlier burglary and attempted sexual assault at the senior living facility.

 

Cousar was positively identified by the victims during a show-up procedure as the person who unlawfully entered the senior living facility and assaulted them.

 

Cousar was taken into custody and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he has been charged with attempted second-degree rape, second-degree assault, third-degree burglary, third-degree sex offense, indecent exposure and disorderly conduct. He is currently being held without bond.
