Collision Reconstruction Unit Investigating Fatal Aspen Hill Collision

Gaithersburg, MD – The Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is investigating a fatal Aspen Hill collision involving 11-year-old Summer Lim, who died Thursday afternoon, October 9, 2025.

At approximately 3:13 p.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Bauer Drive and Russett Road after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting that a bicyclist had been struck by a Montgomery County Public Schools bus.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2019 Thomas school bus was traveling eastbound on Bauer Drive and was turning right onto southbound Russett Road when the collision occurred. Lim was also traveling eastbound on Bauer Drive when the collision occurred.

Lim was located at the rear of the school bus. Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the time of the collision, the school bus was transporting children home from Earle B. Wood Middle School, where Lim was also a student. There were no reported injuries to those on the bus or the driver. A second bus was dispatched to the scene, and all students were safely transferred and taken to a reunification location.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. It may take several weeks or longer for the full investigation to be completed by CRU detectives.
