Gaithersburg, MD - One of two suspects wanted in connection with the shooting death of 29-year-old Akwalabeng Fontava is in custody.
Fontava was shot and killed inside of his North Bethesda apartment on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division, Homicide Section identified the location of 18-year-old Joshua Carter.
On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, officers with the US Marshals Service - Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force, Fayetteville Division, arrested Carter without incident at a residence in Fayetteville, NC.
Carter remains in custody in North Carolina pending extradition to Montgomery County. He is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of armed robbery.
The second suspect, 25-year-old Justin Michael Greene Collins, remains outstanding.
