Montgomery County Police Temporarily Suspend Downtown Silver Spring Drone Operations

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, October 22, 2025

Gaithersburg, MD - The Montgomery County Department of Police has temporarily suspended its Drone as First Responder (DFR) operations in downtown Silver Spring. The pause is a necessary safety measure due to nearby construction at the current drone launch site.

The department is actively working to identify a new launch location to ensure the continued delivery of DFR services to the downtown community.

In the interim, DFR equipment and personnel will be temporarily reassigned to support patrol operations in the White Oak area, based out of the 3rd District Station.

The department remains fully committed to the DFR program and its mission to enhance public safety. We appreciate the community’s understanding during this transition and will share updates as they become available.
