Gaithersburg, MD - A 23-year-old woman has been charged in connection with a traffic collision that resulted in the death of an 85-year-old Silver Spring woman.
On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, Jesica Evelin Argueta, of Silver Spring, turned herself in on an arrest warrant charging her with manslaughter by vehicle due to gross negligence and other related traffic offenses.
The charges stem from a collision that occurred on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at approximately 7:44 a.m., at the intersection of Randolph Road and Sherwood Forest Drive in Silver Spring. The collision involved a 2011 Toyota 4Runner, a 2025 Toyota GR86 driven by Argueta, and a 2025 Buick Envista.
The investigation determined that Argueta was weaving through morning rush-hour traffic and traveling at speeds up to 84.5 miles per hour in a 40-mph zone before the crash.
Montgomery County Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit detectives determined that Argueta’s car struck the Toyota 4Runner at approximately 66.5 miles per hour.
The front-seat passenger of the 4Runner, Josephine Maria Gieske of Silver Spring, suffered serious injuries in the collision. On August 22, 2025, Gieske died as a result of those injuries.
According to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the cause of death was subdural hematoma and traumatic brain injury.
Argueta was released on a $15,000 personal bond on January 7.
