The Montgomery County Department of Police is aware that the Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an adult male who was transported to a hospital under an emergency evaluation petition on December 15, 2025.
31-year-old Jamal Thompson was taken to the hospital by ambulance after Montgomery County Police officers responded to a call for a person in crisis. Several hours later, Thompson died following a medical crisis.
Under Maryland law, the IID is the lead investigative agency in this matter and is responsible for releasing information related to the investigation. This includes the names of the involved officers, which the IID is required to release in accordance with state statute.
The Montgomery County Department of Police is fully cooperating with the IID and will hold comment until the conclusion of the investigation. Any further inquiries should be directed to the Office of the Attorney General.
