Montgomery County Police Drone Operations in downtown Silver Spring resume

For Immediate Release: Monday, February 9, 2026

Gaithersburg, MD - The Montgomery County Police Department's Drone as a First Responder (DFR) program has resumed operations in the downtown Silver Spring area.

In October 2025 the drone operations were temporarily moved to the White Oak area because a crane being used for purple line construction was obstructing the drone's flight path.

On Thursday, February 5, 2026 the Drone as a First Responder program resumed operations in the downtown Silver Spring area.  The department remains fully committed to the DFR program and its mission to enhance public safety.
