Two Arrested on Gun Charges Following Traffic Stop in Montgomery Village

Gaithersburg, MD – 26-year-old Nyrel Daquan Lee of Montgomery Village and 25-year-old Noric Obed Malgar of Gaithersburg have been arrested and charged with multiple handgun and drug related offenses, following a traffic stop on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

Montgomery County Department of Police 6th District Community Action Team officers were proactively patrolling the area of the Montgomery Village Shopping Center when they observed suspicious activity involving the driver of a black Kia Sorento.

After observing a traffic violation, officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Germantown Road and Observation Drive.  During the traffic stop, it was determined that the driver, Lee, was driving the car on a suspended license.

A search of the Sorento resulted in the recovery of two loaded handguns, one located under Lee’s seat and another inside a bag near Malgar, who was a passenger. Officers also recovered controlled dangerous substances (CDS), drug paraphernalia and un-disclosed amount of cash from inside the vehicle.

Lee and Malgar were transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where they are currently being held without bond.
