Investigation Ongoing After Antisemitic Vandalism at Olney Synagogue

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, February 11, 2026

Gaithersburg, MD – The Montgomery County Department of Police is actively investigating an incident of vandalism that occurred at Shaare Tefila Synagogue, located in the 16600 block of Georgia Avenue.

On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at approximately 8 a.m., officers from the 4th District were dispatched to the location in Olney, following reports of antisemitic graffiti.

During the overnight hours from Monday, February 9 to Tuesday, February 10, 2026, unknown suspect(s) spray painted antisemitic phrases and symbols on multiple signs in the front of the synagogue.

MCPD is currently canvassing the area and reviewing surveillance footage from the neighborhood in an effort to identify those responsible.

Montgomery County Police take incidents like this very seriously and the 4th District is increasing patrol in the area to ensure the safety and security of the community.
