Summary of Events - Maple Leaf Drive Accidental Shooting

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, February 17, 2026

The following is a brief summary of events regarding a shooting in Montgomery Village.

At approximately 2:45 p.m., Montgomery County Department of Police 6th District officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel were dispatched to the 10100 block of Maple Leaf Drive for the report of a shooting.

First responders entered the townhome and located a 6-year-old boy with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face. Officers and Fire Rescue personnel provided aid to the child, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the time of the shooting, the child was inside the residence with one adult.

The Major Crimes Division responded to the scene and is investigating. At this time, no foul play is suspected. All information is preliminary, and the investigation is ongoing.

A news release will be distributed when additional information becomes available, including the name of the decedent.
