Gaithersburg, MD — A Germantown man is in custody and facing attempted murder charges after shooting at Montgomery County police officers.
On Tuesday, March 24, 2026, Montgomery County Department of Police - 6th District officers were patrolling the area of Contour Road in Montgomery Village following community complaints of criminal activity including aggravated assaults, robberies, theft, drug activity, disorderly conduct and other public nuisance crimes.
At approximately 4:51 p.m., officers observed an individual known to them as a drug user pacing in the parking lot. A short time later, they saw another man, later identified as 27-year-old Andre Duvall, enter the lot and approach the first man.
When Duvall saw a marked police cruiser, he walked past the known individual out of the shopping center and crossed Contour Road. As officers attempted to stop him, he ran, leading officers into an apartment complex.
An officer ran after him, identifying himself as County Police and giving commands to stop. As the officer turned the corner of a building, Duvall fired multiple shots at him. The officer took cover, reported shots fired and returned fire, striking Duvall.
Officers immediately requested medical assistance and began providing first aid until Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel arrived. Duvall was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was released later that same day and taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
Duvall is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first- and second-degree assault, and multiple firearms violations. He is prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior convictions and is being held without bond.
No officers were injured, and no bystanders were harmed. A handgun was recovered at the scene.
The Montgomery County Police Investigative Services Bureau is investigating this event.
Body Worn video is expected to be released by the beginning of the week of March 30, 2026.
