County Executive Leggett’s Remarks as the New Trinity Health Military and Veterans Health Program

Holy Cross Health, 19801 Observation Drive, Germantown

As prepared

Good morning!  As a veteran and head of the County government, I am extremely honored to be a part of this ceremony for the New Trinity Health Military and Veterans Health Program.

While the Department of Veterans Affairs’ goal is for no veteran to be more than 30 minutes from medical care, many of Montgomery County’s veterans face a much longer drive to reach Walter Reed National Military Medical Center or (even farther) the V-A Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

In 2008, I established the Montgomery County Commission on Veterans Affairs to give our veterans a voice in how the County can best serve them; and they said, right at the top with V-A Supportive Housing, having health care services here in the County is also a priority.

Today’s ceremony symbolizes Holy Cross’s commitment to help the V-A achieve its stated goal and ensure those who have worn the cloth of our nation have access to the quality care they deserve.

Again, I am honored to be here today to see this all come to fruition. Thank you!
