County Executive Leggett’s Remarks at the Marriott Headquarter’s Groundbreaking

Area of 7740 Wisconsin Ave, Bethesda, MD 20814

As approved

Good morning!

Thank you, Governor. It is a tremendous pleasure to be here today on this occasion.

In my 12 years as County Executive, I’ve often said I enjoy groundbreakings, for they mean good things are coming. And I usually follow that by saying, ‘but I love ribbon-cuttings even more.’

In this case, today is the start of something big and bold - the biggest, in fact, in my time as County Executive.

I must add my gratitude to the Governor; to the County Council; to our Delegation; and to the staff who work

ed so hard on this. With a clear target, it was truly a coordinated, bipartisan and friendly effort – a beautiful and well-planned endeavor that I hope becomes the model of how we do business in the County and beyond!

Last year was Marriott’s 90th year in business; and I am so thrilled that Arne Sorenson and the Marriott family chose to celebrate by selecting Montgomery County as its future headquarters. I am leaving office soon; but I hope Marriott family will be here for the next 90 years, because they are a great neighbor!

Arne, my deepest thanks to you, and to the Marriott family.
