4th Avenue between Grace Church & Hanover Street, Silver Spring
As prepared
For 100 years, the Talbot Avenue Bridge has provided a vital social and economic link between the historically African-American community of Lyttonsville and the white neighborhoods of Silver Spring and greater Montgomery County.
The Talbot Avenue Bridge has borne witness to Montgomery County's evolving history of segregation, desegregation, and its improving environment of racial inclusion, tolerance and diversity.
The Talbot Avenue Bridge today stands as a symbol of its neighboring communities' desire to harmoniously live together and work together for the common good of all the residents of Silver Spring and Montgomery County.
The Talbot Avenue Bridge Centennial Celebration Committee represents the best of our County's collective efforts to bring neighbors together to acknowledge the historic importance of this bridge so that all can learn of the important role it has played in Montgomery County's history.
Saturday, September 22, 2018 will be declared "The Talbot Avenue Bridge Day."
I offer heartfelt congratulations to the Talbot Avenue Bridge Centennial Celebration Committee and all who have worked to mark this important Centennial Celebration for all our residents.
