County Executive Leggett’s Talking Points at the CASA Wheaton Welcome Center Grand Opening and Award Presentation to Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett

Wheaton Welcome Center, 11425 Grandview Avenue, Wheaton

As prepared

Congratulations on the opening of the new Wheaton Welcome Center that will serve immigrants.

Thank Gustavo Torres and the CASA Board of Directors for the CASA Immigrant Champion Award.

Wheaton Welcome Center is a partnership of CASA and Montgomery County that is expected to generate more than $1.5 million through 3,000 living-wage jobs for County residents.

The center will also provide classes and workshops that will help to train and raise wages for all community members.

CASA will offer workshops with a range of topics including computer repair, building maintenance, HVAC training, computer access, resume writing and health and safety classes.

The nonprofit sector has helped in assisting working class families and the immigrant community; and the County signed into law the minimum wage increase.

It has been my administration’s vision and mission that Montgomery County continues to be the most welcoming County in America and that our government is inclusive of our diversity.

I appreciate the work CASA does helping your more than 100,000 members to persevere and integrate to the economic fiber in this County.
