Leggett to Attend Snow Summit Where New Initiatives Will Be Announced;
County Prepares for Winter Storm Season with Mock Snow Day and Snow Summit
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation, Division of Highway Services will conduct an all-day exercise to test the preparedness of the County’s snow plans and fleet. Snow plow operators will run snow routes on more than 5,200 lane miles of County-maintained roads. Staff will handle a simulated six-inch snow storm.

Snow Summit - Wednesday, November 2, 10 a.m.
Gaithersburg Depot, 17000 Crabbs Branch Way, Gaithersburg
Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will speak at the County’s snow summit, where officials from all County agencies with snow removal responsibilities assess their readiness for winter storms and discuss new initiatives. This year, these initiatives include a revised online portal that provides snow information in a more user-friendly format and a pilot project that will compare the effectiveness of salt brine versus salt in treating 18 miles of roads. If salt brine is proven to be as effective, MCDOT could reduce the amount of salt required for winter storm treatment, which would also benefit environmental quality.
MCDOT chiefs from the Highway Services, Transit Services, Parking Management and Traffic Engineering and Operations divisions will discuss how they prepare for snow and winter storms.
Photo Opportunity: Tours of the County’s Gaithersburg Depot will be available, including the largest salt barn on the east coast. Snow plows and other snow removal equipment will be displayed.
Note on Location: The Depot is the last building on the left at the dead end of Crabbs Branch Way, adjacent to the salt barn.
