 County Executive Isiah Leggett will present remarks and recognize award recipients. The County’s Department of Environmental Protection, and its Division of Solid Waste Services will recognize 15 businesses, non-profit organizations, and government facilities and 11 multi-family properties in the following categories: excellence in recycling for businesses and multi-family properties recycling far more than 70 percent of their waste stream generated during calendar year 2016; achievement with innovative waste reduction, reuse and/or recycling programs that minimize the amount of solid waste disposed; outstanding educational programs to increase overall recycling awareness; and reinvigorated efforts to increase waste reduction, reuse and recycling programs. In addition, six individuals will be recognized for their efforts to encourage and motivate others in their community or at their workplace to increase their waste reduction, reuse, recycling, buying recycled and composting/grasscycling efforts.
