Maryland Lt. Governor Aruna Miller and Local Elected Officials to Join Families for Seventh Annual Overdose Awareness Day Remembrance Ceremony in Rockville

Thursday, Aug. 31. 6:30 p.m. Memorial Plaza, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville (Terrace between Executive Office Building and Circuit Court)

Maryland Lt. Governor Aruna Miller, Montgomery County Chief Administrative Officer Richard Madaleno, County Councilmembers Gabe Albornoz, Natali Fani-Gonzalez and Sidney Katz, as well as other officials at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31, in Rockville to join family and friends to recognize and remember those who have died from an overdose. The Seventh Annual International Overdose Awareness Day will be hosted by the Montgomery Goes Purple community coalition.  

The event also will recognize September as International Recovery Month, an international observance to celebrate recovery and encourage individuals with a mental health or substance use disorder to seek recovery.

International Overdose Awareness Day is aimed at raising awareness of overdoses and reducing the stigma of substance-related deaths.

Families will have an opportunity to recognize their loved one and light a candle in their honor.

The schedule for the event:

  • 5-6:30 p.m.          Resource Fair (cafeteria inside building)
  • 6:30-7:15 p.m.    Recovery Month kick-off
  • 7:30 p.m.             International Overdose Awareness Day Ceremony and Candlelight Vigil
