For Immediate Release: Friday, May 17, 2024
The Recycling and Resource Management Division of Montgomery County’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will celebrate its 25th Annual Recycling Awareness Week with a series of interactive educational programs called the "3 R's Magic Show.” The shows will go to private schools across the County on May 20, 21, 23 and 24 to educate students about the importance of protecting the environment and working toward the goal of “zero waste” by reducing waste, reusing items and recycling.
The schools were selected based on their recycling efforts throughout the year.
Recycling Awareness Week highlights the achievements of businesses, organizations, multi-family properties, government facilities, schools and individuals in reducing waste, reusing and recycling more. DEP focuses on these efforts to preserve natural resources, protect the environment and serve as examples for others to follow.
The recycling assemblies will take place in private schools across the County. At the 3 R’s Magic Show, DEP’s recycling mascot, Rocco the Recycling Retriever, will highlight examples of the materials that are recyclable at home and school and review other items that can be recycled and/or donated for reuse through other efforts.
The goal is to educate students and staff about the importance and benefits of reducing waste, reusing materials, recycling right, aiming for zero waste and motivating their continued participation in the County’s recycling program.
