Department of Liquor Control Teams Up with Designated Driver Service in Montgomery County

In an effort to prevent drunk driving in Montgomery County during holiday periods and beyond, the Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control (DLC) has partnered with BeMyDD (Be My Designated Driver) by placing cards in County liquor stores worth $20 toward a ride from a designated driver.
The BeMyDD program is an affordable designated driver service offering an alternative transportation solution. It also encourages adults to plan out their evening. The program works in three ways. An adult over the age of 21 can hire a personal driver to drive their car for the evening, or call for a pick-up service, where two drivers will pick up a patron and their car for a safe ride home. Another alternative is the “Peace of Mind” plan that allows all guests at events-- such as weddings--to get their cars home with ease. BeMyDD hires only professional, experienced drivers wearing formal business attire. Drivers are personally interviewed, background-screened and insured.
“The Department of Liquor Control is proud to partner with the BeMyDD program,” said DLC Division Chief Kathie Durbin. “The program, currently in 31 states gives adults an additional low-cost designated driver option to choose from. It’s a win win for everyone.”

The partnership with BeMyDD to put the $20 cards in County liquor stores is part of the County’s “Keeping It Safe” designated driver campaign to cut down on drunk driving during the holiday season and throughout the year.
