Montgomery Councilmember Leventhal receives Public Service Award from The Arc Montgomery County

For Immediate Release: Monday, March 21, 2016

Montgomery County Councilmember George Leventhal on March 20 received the Public Service Award from The Arc Montgomery County. The award was presented at the annual The Arc Community, Staff and Volunteer Awards Dinner, which was held at the Bethesda Marriott. The event recognizes those who have made a positive impact on the organization.

The Arc identifies, creates and sustains inclusive communities that embrace and support individuals and families affected by intellectual and developmental disabilities. The organization is at the forefront of creating intentionally diverse, barrier-free environments as a major part of that support.

The Arc Public Service Award is presented to an individual who has performed an outstanding service on behalf of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The organization recognized Councilmember Leventhal for his efforts to restore County funding for the developmental disability supplement that the County Executive had proposed cutting as part of his savings plan last year.

“Receiving this award was extremely important to me,” said Councilmember Leventhal, who chairs the Council’s Health and Human Services Committee. “Working with The Arc throughout the years, I see the difference that the organization is making in the lives of those who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. Being able to help this effort is one of the best parts of my job.”
