For Immediate Release: Wednesday, May 4, 2016

The Wheaton Urban District Advisory Committee (WUDAC), in partnership with the Coalition for Smarter Growth, will host its annual downtown Wheaton Walking Tour this Saturday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  WUDAC invites the community to participate in planning the future of Wheaton.

The WUDAC consists of 11 members appointed by the County Executive and confirmed by the County Council to provide advice on all matters affecting the Wheaton Urban District area.  Members represent businesses, the Chamber of Commerce, residents, and the Mid County Citizens Advisory Board.

This year’s “Envision Wheaton’s Future” walking tour will focus on the future of Wheaton and the new development and plans for the area. Wheaton is a diverse, transit accessible community in the heart of Montgomery County. The walking tour brings together a host of County and private experts and resources on topics such as the new development project, affordable housing, traffic, pedestrian and public safety, the new Bikeshare program, green spaces, the business assistance program and Wheaton as an arts and entertainment district.

“Wheaton is on the cusp of a large-scale renewal,” said Devala Janardan, WUDAC chair and long-time Wheaton resident. “This walking tour will allow the community to hear more about the County’s short- long-term plans for the area, and will also provide a chance for attendees to provide their own input.”
