Montgomery County Offers Additional Services in Response to the Deadly Flower Branch Apartment Fire

For Immediate Release: Friday, August 12, 2016

Montgomery County established a reunification center at Rolling Terrace Elementary School, 705 Bayfield St., Takoma Park until 8 p.m. 8/12. Reunification resumed 8/12 at 8 a.m. at the Long Branch Community Recreation Center located at 8700 Piney Branch Rd. Silver Spring.  


MC311, the County’s Customer Service Call Center, extended hours of operation until midnight on 8/11. Callers who live in the County may call 3-1-1, callers outside of the County should call 240-777-0311. The MC311 call center does have Spanish-speaking Customer Service Representatives (call takers).

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation is providing one bus on 8/12 until 7 p.m. to circle from:

Long Branch Community Recreation Center at 8700 Piney Branch Rd. to Tess Center at 8513 Piney Branch Road to Donation Store at 8502 Greenwood Avenue and back to the Long Branch Community Recreation Center.

Montgomery County Public Libraries Long Branch is providing services to support residents who lost their homes and personal belongings. The Long Branch Library is located at 8800 Garland Ave., Silver Spring. The library is open until 8 p.m. tonight and will reopen at 10 a.m. tomorrow.

The Library offers:   

  • Spanish speakers on staff

  • Computers and laptops for work and personal use

  • Charging stations

  • Free fast wi-fi

  • Books, toys, and games

  • Air Conditioner

Additionally, the Library staff will provide library resources and materials to residents who are staying at the emergency shelter established at the Long Branch Community Recreation Center.
