"County Report This Week" Wins another Hometown Media Award

For Immediate Release: Thursday, August 25, 2016

Montgomery County’s own County Report This Week (CRTW) won an Alliance for Community Media award for best magazine show. The Hometown Media Awards by the Alliance for Community Media honor and promote community media and local cable programs that are distributed on Public, Educational, and Governmental (PEG) access cable television channels.

County PEG partners Montgomery Community Media and Montgomery College also won awards for their work in 2015.

“The staff at County Report This Week work tirelessly, year-round, to bring our residents and businesses all of the news from around the County ensuring everyone stays informed via the PEG channels and the Internet,” said Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett. “Winning this award again from the Alliance for Community Media acknowledges their innovative and dedicated efforts.”

Awards are presented to creative programs that address community needs, develop diverse community involvement, challenge conventional commercial television formats, and move viewers to experience television in a different way.

The award-winning episode of CRTW, which aired October 9, 2015, features reports on the pesticide bill; unemployment statistics; walk-to-school day; Progress Place; early voting centers; a naturalization ceremony; the Society for University and College Planning conference; bicycle master plan; and more. Watch episode from YouTube.

To be eligible, programs entered must have had their first telecast on a local cable access channel or their initial stream/Web distribution on or between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015. View the full list of award winners.
