For Immediate Release: Thursday, January 19, 2017
The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) announced that on or about January 23, PEPCO will begin relocating multiple underground duct banks, manholes, and underground vaults on Elm Street in Bethesda, as well as relocating duct banks along Wisconsin Avenue. During the relocation work, Elm Street will be closed to through traffic, but sidewalk access will be maintained. The PEPCO work will last approximately eight months.
Work will primarily take place Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Motorists should expect daily, single-lane closures along Wisconsin Avenue and Bethesda Avenue for approximately three to four weeks. Night work along Wisconsin Avenue will also occur during this time.
MTA is managing the work on behalf of Montgomery County, in preparation for construction of a new, ADA accessible Bethesda Metrorail Station South Entrance located at the intersection of Elm Street and Wisconsin Avenue. The Bethesda Metrorail Station South Entrance will eventually connect to MTA’s Purple Line Bethesda station. Funded by the County, and ultimately owned and operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), these utility relocations represent the first stage of up to approximately six years of coordinated construction in the area of the Bethesda Metrorail Station South Entrance.
More information is available on MTA’s website.
