Montgomery County Public Libraries and Montgomery County Historical Society Presents Women’s History Month Series

Montgomery County Public Libraries will celebrate Women’s History Month at several libraries branches during March. The program series called Making a Difference: Montgomery County Women in the 19th & 20th Centuries will be presented by the Montgomery County Historical Society (MCHS) Speakers Bureau.

 

The free programs suitable for adults will take place as follows:

 

March 7 at 6:30 p.m.

The Little Woman Who Grew Up: A Visit with Louisa May Alcott. Reenactor: Candace Ridington.

Twinbrook Library, 202 Meadow Hall Drive, Rockville

March 8 at 7 p.m.

Lily Stone. Presenter: Judy Welles.

Bethesda Library, 7400 Arlington Road, Bethesda

March 11 at 2 p.m.

We Were There Too: Nurses in the Civil War. Reenactor: Candace Ridington.

Olney Library, 3500 Olney-Laytonsville Road, Olney

March 19 at 3 p.m.

Welcome to Chestnut Lodge: The Story of Frieda Fromm-Reichmann.

Presenter: Karen Webber.

Rockville Memorial Library, 21 Maryland Avenue, Rockville

March 21 at 7 p.m.

Message or Myth: Quilts and the Underground Railroad.  Presenter: Susan Soderberg.

Germantown Library, 19840 Century Blvd., Germantown

March 25 at 2 p.m.

Divided Nation, Divided Town: One Woman’s Experience.  Presenter: Emily Correll.

Marilyn J. Praisner Library, 14910 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville

“We are very pleased to partner with the Montgomery County Historical Society to host this program series to tell the story of the many women who made a difference in our County,” said MCPL Director Parker Hamilton. “To learn about their contributions and accomplishments is relevant in understanding our County’s strength and history.”

 

MCPL offers free and equal access to services and resources that connect the people of Montgomery County to ideas and information which sustain and enrich their lives. MCHS, a non-profit organization, that serves the community through educational programs and whose mission is to collect, preserve, interpret and share the histories of Montgomery County’s residents.
