Montgomery County Government to Open on Time Wednesday, March 15

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, March 14, 2017

Montgomery County Government will be open Wednesday, March 15, with normal operations. Employees are expected to report as scheduled.  The declaration of a snow emergency prohibiting parking on snow emergency routes will be lifted as of 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, March 14. Free parking in County parking lots and garages also ends at that time. The County’s Department of Transportation’s (MCDOT) Division of Parking Management has treated all garages, lots and adjoining sidewalks and will continue clearing operations. MCDOT's Division of Highway Services continues to clear roads in neighborhoods.

The County's Ride On bus service will resume its normal schedule. Check Ride On's website for schedule and other information.  County-provided recycling and trash collection will resume on Wednesday, on a one-day-slide schedule. Materials must be set out to the curb by 7 a.m., in a visible location. Recycling and trash containers must be free of snow and ice. Collection personnel will not dig out containers. Yard waste collection will be cancelled for the remainder of the week.  The Shady Grove Processing Facility and Transfer Station will operate on its normal schedule, including evening hours at the Public Unloading Facility.

All Montgomery County Department of Recreation aquatic centers and recreation centers will open at 9 a.m. for normal operations. Administrative offices will open on time. All classes, programs and planned activities will go on as scheduled. Senior Centers will open at their regularly scheduled time for normal operations; however senior transportation and nutrition programs are cancelled.

It is now time for residents to clear snow from sidewalks in front of their homes, as required by County law. Understanding that this is a difficult task for some, it must be accomplished to provide safe routes for people depending upon Metro and Ride On bus service, people using wheelchairs and with other physical challenges and for children when they return to school. The County will begin accepting complaints on Wednesday at 10 a.m.; those complaints can be filed online at the mc311 website, www.mc311.com

If a street has not been touched by a plow, report that information on the County’s Snow Portal or go to the MC311 website, www.mc311.com.   MC311, Montgomery County’s informational call center, will close Tuesday, March 14, at 8 p.m., and will open at 7 a.m. Wednesday to resume normal operations. Contact MC311 online at www.mc311.com or by calling 3-1-1 or 240-777-0311.
