The Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control (DLC) reported a 65% sales increase on St. Patrick’s Day over last year’s holiday. Landing on a Friday this year, holiday sales have surpassed expectations with the DLC stores selling $668,169.29 on St. Patrick’s Day compared to $404,382.69 on March 17, 2016. The DLC serviced over 5,000 more customers overall.
“Montgomery County retail stores have put a larger focus on customer service and product knowledge,” says Robert Dorfman, Director of the Department of Liquor Control. “The stores are following consumer trends and promoting Irish Whiskies, Bourbons and Ryes.”
The Department of Liquor Control currently operates 26 stores with another opening in Aspen Hill in early April. Revenue from alcohol sales goes to the County’s general fund to pay for county expenses such as schools, roads and public safety projects that tax payers would otherwise pay for. This revenue generation amounted to $33 million in fiscal year 2016.
