Expansion of Educational, Innovative “Go! Kits” Coming to Montgomery County Public Libraries; Kits Introduce Young Children to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math

For Immediate Release: Friday, April 7, 2017

Go! Kits, developed by Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) as a fun and innovative way to introduce young children to a variety of concepts in science, technology, engineering and math, are now available at all 21 MCPL branches.

The nationally award winning Go! Kits are part of MCPL’s ACE (All Children Excel) initiative to help children succeed in school by providing materials, collections and programs that will spark an interest in science.  Every kit includes two books about a specific science topic, an educational toy, a mini tablet preloaded with age-appropriate, themed activities, plus a folder with related activities. The materials in the kits were carefully selected for two specific age groups.  The Little Explorer Go! Kits are designed for preschool children ages 3-6, and Young Voyagers Go! Kits target elementary-age children in grades 3 – 6.  Each kit can be borrowed for two weeks at a time.

“We released the first version of Go! Kits in 2014 at seven of our branches, and they have become a very popular, exciting way to help children learn and encourages them to explore the world around them,” said MCPL Director Parker Hamilton, “We included the expansion of Go! Kits to all branches in our FY17-20 Strategic Plan, and added more themes.”
