African American Health Program Community Day Planned for April 15

Please join your friends and neighbors at the fourth annual Community Day on Saturday, April 15, at the East County Community Center at 3310 Gateshead Manor Way in Silver Spring.  This free event, sponsored by the African American Health Program, will be held during Minority Health Month to focus efforts on health screenings, health education and physical fitness activities.  Held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., attendees can have health screenings, learn about disease prevention and participate in fitness demonstrations for all ages.  There will be yoga, physical fitness demonstrations, line dancing, food demonstrations, gardening education, hands-on arts and crafts and other art activities for young participants and more.

Chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and issues such as infant mortality deaths disproportionately affect Black/African Americans as compared to other races and ethnicities.

If you need sign language interpretation or other auxiliary aids or services to participate in the event, please contact Arlee Wallace at 240-777-1451 or arlee.wallace@montgomerycountymd.gov with as much advance notice as possible, preferably three business days before the event.
