ROCKVILLE, Md., July 21, 2017—Montgomery County Council President Roger Berliner, who chairs the Council’s Transportation, Infrastructure, Energy and Environment Committee and serves on the Health and Human Services Committee, will be the featured guest at 2:30 p.m. TODAY, July 24 on En Sintonía con el Concejo del Conado de Montgomery (Tuned in with the Montgomery County Council), a weekly show on Radio America (WACA 1540AM).  The live show will include a discussion about public policy issues that impact County residents and an opportunity for listeners to ask questions.

Council President Berliner will talk about the future of the Purple Line, his recent efforts to oppose a new Potomac River bridge crossing and public transportation options in the County.

Blanca Kling, Hispanic Liaison to Media for the Montgomery County Police Department, will join Council President Berliner to discuss public safety issues and the challenges that are faced by police officers.

On Tuesday, July 25 the Council is scheduled to introduce Bill 28-17, Human Rights and Civil Liberties – County Minimum Wage – Amount – Annual Adjustment, that would increase the County minimum wage for many workers to $15 per hour by 2020 and require the Chief Administrative Officer to adjust the County minimum wage rate each year. Bill 28-17 is similar to the one enacted by the Council in January that was subsequently vetoed by the County Executive.   Council President Berliner will discuss the potential impact of Bill 28-17 and describe the legislative process.

The minimum wage is $11.50 per hour in Montgomery County.  Currently there are no requirements in County law for further minimum wage increases.

The Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on County issues and programs. The partnership includes a weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station. Lilian Mass is the show’s host.  In addition to public policy discussions, the show provides a forum for residents to express their views and ask questions.

In addition to the radio broadcast, the show can be heard via the Internet at: http://tunein.com/radio/Radio-America-1540-s6029/ .
