Montgomery County’s transportation priorities for the 2018 State Legislative Session Transportation are summarized below:
Restore WMATA’s safety and service reliability through increased capital investment using a dedicated funding source.
Require WMATA to honor its commitment to eliminating turnbacks at the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail Station by July 1, 2018.
Support more State funding to help meet Vision Zero Action Plan goals to reduce severe and fatal collisions on roads; support law and policy changes to better align with Vision Zero and seek more state funding for additional sidewalks on state roads.
Establish parity between transit systems in the Washington and Baltimore regions by fully funding the operating deficit subsidy for the Washington region’s locally-operated bus systems - - Ride On in Montgomery County and TheBus in Prince George’s County.
Ensure that public funding for transportation in the County is not replaced in the Governor’s plan for private financing of proposed projects for I-495 and I-270, and support the County’s need for improved transit options and increased alternatives to single occupancy vehicles.
