Press Releases - Department of Transportation

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, February 27, 2018

A public hearing is planned to obtain public input on a proposed abandonment of a portion of Reed Street in Bethesda. The hearing will be held on Wednesday March 28, at 7 p.m., in the Executive Office Building Lobby Auditorium, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville.

Lerch Early & Brewer, on behalf of its client, JBG/Woodmont II, LLC, has requested abandonment of a portion of Reed Street consisting of 3,303 square feet of right-of-way adjoining property owned by JBG at 4749 Bethesda Avenue. The affected portion is 18 feet from the eastern edge of the right-of-way, which is 50 feet wide.

JBG has entered into an agreement with the County to allow installation of non-standard improvements that include tables and chairs, special pavers and improved landscaping and hardscaping that also accommodate the interim Capital Crescent Trail (CCT) bike path.

If the abandonment is approved, JBG will enter into a public access easement with the County to maintain the public access easement area and provide the public with continued access to Reed Street as a linear park, a pedestrian connection and the interim CCT bike path.

Comments will be accepted by letter, fax or e-mail. The hearing officer considers all comments equally, whether presented at the public hearing or by writing.
