Montgomery County Business Portal Wins National Award

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, June 13, 2018

The Montgomery County Business Portal, which is celebrating the anniversary of its launch, has received a National Association of Counties (NACo) achievement award for outstanding program in the category of information technology.

Visitors to the Portal will find integrated information from County departments and agencies that issue licenses and permits, administer regulations and provide services making it easier to start and grow a business in Montgomery County.

“Thanks to the business leaders, partners and especially the dedicated County staff across departments, we were able to aggregate and streamline many steps to improve the experience of doing business in Montgomery County,” said Lily Qi, assistant chief administrative officer for economic and workforce development.

The Portal is modeled on national best practices and based on input from an extensive survey of businesses that was conducted in 2016.

“It is a great honor to be recognized by NACo,” said Judy Stephenson, small business navigator. “We’re not done, though. With the help of the business community, we plan to integrate new and updated information on an ongoing basis.”

Richard Cisneros, a business coach with the Latino Economic Development Center, uses the Portal regularly when working with his clients.

“The Montgomery County Business Portal is an incredible tool that allows me to help clients achieve their entrepreneurial goals,” Cisneros said. “The Portal not only allows me to show clients the steps to start and grow their businesses, it also allows me to connect them to the right agencies to ensure they don’t have a hard time finding the right resources.”
