For Immediate Release: Tuesday, September 5, 2023

From the Office of Council President Evan Glass

The Montgomery County Anti-Hate Task Force’s Muslim cohort will hold a virtual listening session on Monday, Sept. 11 at 8 p.m.

The listening session is an opportunity for the public to engage with the Muslim cohort of the Anti-Hate Task Force and provide input that will guide the cohort’s recommendations to the Council. Each of the six cohorts is tasked with presenting policy recommendations that promote safety and combat hate in Montgomery County.

The Anti-Hate Task Force was formally adopted through a resolution with unanimous support by the Council in June. The task force, made up of community and faith leaders, held their first meeting in July.

The listening session is open to the public and will take place on Monday, Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. and will be conducted virtually via Zoom. Residents can register here. The meeting will be available to watch on YouTube the following day.

The task force is expected to hold several meetings in the upcoming months, and present final recommendations in late November. Cohort groups representing the Jewish, African American/Black, LGBTQ+, Asian American and Pacific Islander, Latino/Hispanic and Muslim communities are meeting throughout the fall. Keep up with the Anti-Hate Task Force's work and visit the Council webpage for the schedule of upcoming meetings, listening sessions and to watch past meetings.

Members of the media must RSVP by Monday, Sept. 11 at noon by emailing Selena Mendy Singleton at [email protected].
