For Immediate Release: Wednesday, January 31, 2024
On Wednesday, Feb. 7, starting at 6:30 p.m., the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will hold a joint public information meeting to introduce the Piney Branch Road Bike Lanes Facility Project and discuss the latest plans of the Flower Avenue Separated Bike Lanes Project which has reached the 35% design milestone. The public will have an opportunity to attend in-person or online and provide feedback and ask questions about both projects.
The Piney Branch Road Separated Bike Lanes Facility project will provide additional pedestrian and bicycle connectivity along Piney Branch Road beyond the immediate vicinity of the future Purple Line Station Area. The project extends along Piney Branch Road (MD 320) from Sligo Creek Trail at the western limits to New Hampshire Avenue (MD 650) at the east end. The proposed bicycle facility will tie into the Purple Line bikeway project, which extends from Arliss Street to the east side of the University Boulevard (MD 193) intersection.
The Flower Avenue Separated Bike Lanes Project will add a low-stress bikeway along Flower Avenue between Arliss Street and Piney Branch Road (MD 320) and will improve traffic and pedestrian safety. This facility will also help to provide connections for cyclists to the future Purple Line station at Arliss Street. At the public information meeting, MCDOT will present the 35% design, project details, costs and schedules.
Each completed project will enhance safety for bicyclists as they travel to nearby schools and facilities. Public input is encouraged and may influence future designs.
This meeting will be accessible both in-person and virtually. Online registration is required to attend. The virtual meeting link will be emailed to you the morning of the meeting. The in-person meeting will be held in Social Hall B of the Long Branch Community Recreation Center located at 8700 Piney Branch Road, Silver Spring and will be broadcasted live via Zoom.
The public is encouraged to provide their comments for each respective project via the online comment form or by emailing the project manager:
