For Immediate Release: Tuesday, November 26, 2024
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is offering free parking in County-owned garages and lots on Saturday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 21. The free parking days are scheduled during two of the biggest shopping days of the year.
Parking fees at on-street meters will still be enforced on those days.
“I am pleased that the County will offer free parking on Small Business Saturday and Super Saturday, which we know are some of the busiest times for holiday shopping,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “I hope this encourages residents to visit our independent retail stores and enjoy a festive meal or drink while supporting the local shops and restaurants that make Montgomery County a special place to live.”
Small Business Saturday is a nationally recognized initiative to promote shopping at local businesses on what is traditionally one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year. The Saturday before Christmas, also known as Super Saturday, marks the final major shopping day of the year and one of the busiest for in-person shopping.
“We hope by offering free parking, residents and visitors will take the time to shop in person at some of our local businesses,” said MCDOT Director Chris Conklin. “And, of course, if you prefer to leave the car at home, our Ride On bus service is just $1 and offers service to all of our County’s major destinations.”
Residents can plan their bus route using the Ride On Trip Planner app to find the fastest route and look up real-time bus arrival information.
