Press Releases

For Immediate Release: Friday, March 7, 2025

In celebration of Women’s History Month, the Montgomery County Commission for Women (CFW), in partnership with Montgomery County Recreation and Montgomery County Public Libraries, invites residents to participate in the eighth annual Girl Power Contest.

This year’s contest encourages residents to answer the question:

The media we consume plays a powerful role in shaping confidence, ambition and self-worth, especially for young girls and women, by providing representation, positive role models and stories that challenge stereotypes. What kind of media (TV shows, social media content, YouTube series, movies, books) would you create to inspire, uplift and empower girls and women in the community?

Montgomery County residents ages five and older are invited to submit a short story, poem, drawing or other creative work that addresses this topic.

Submissions will be accepted through Monday, March 31 at 5 p.m. and are limited to one per person. Written entries should be no more than 500 words. Entries should include full name, age, grade and school (if applicable), telephone number and email address.

Winners will be chosen in four categories: elementary, middle, high school and adult. They will be featured on the CFW’s social media platforms, invited to a recognition ceremony and receive a certificate and Girl Power swag bag. Winners will be announced in early May.

Entries from minors must include parent or guardian permission and be their own work. All submissions become property of the Montgomery County Commission for Women and may be used for publicity.
