Department of Liquor Control Reports 100 Percent Compliance Following Latest Round of Alcohol Compliance Checks

Montgomery County’s Department of Liquor Control’s (DLC) most recent round of alcohol compliance checks revealed no illegal alcohol sales made to minors under the age of 21. The County’s compliance check program has become a national model with DLC’s alcohol enforcement specialists working in partnership with the Police Department, Sheriff’s Office, State’s Attorney’s Office and local high school student volunteers.

During a compliance check, young people under the age of 21 are sent into licensed establishments and/or stores to attempt to purchase alcohol with an underage identification.

“We are seeing these results across the board, with sellers and servers checking the identifications, reading them and denying service to under-21 individuals,” said DLC Chief of Licensure, Regulation and Education Kathie Durbin. “It’s encouraging to see licensed establishments implement responsible alcohol policies that will have a positive impact on our community.”

Recognizing that alcohol licensed businesses are the first line of defense in helping to reduce the availability of alcohol to youth under the age of 21, a multi-agency, comprehensive alcohol compliance program was developed in Montgomery County. The Department of Liquor Control, Montgomery County Police and Sheriffs departments conduct compliance checks in tandem ensuring a fair and evenly distributed number of checks.
