Department of Liquor Control Trains More Than 700 Business Owners and Employees in 2010

Last year, Montgomery County’s Department of Liquor Control (DLC), Division of Licensure, Regulation and Education, trained more than 700 local liquor license holders (establishments licensed to sell and/or serve alcohol) and their staff through its Alcohol Law Education and Regulatory Training (ALERT) program.

The ALERT program was developed in 2006 by DLC and since that time has become a national model. Designed to educate servers, sellers, managers and owners of licensed County businesses in alcohol beverage regulatory compliance, the training program is offered to current County businesses or potential licensees. Participants learn how to develop responsible alcohol policies and review issues identified by County and State enforcement agencies. They also have an opportunity to meet and network with peers and County officials.

“The ALERT program helps people understand the legal and social responsibilities that accompany alcohol service and sales,” said DLC Division Chief Kathie Durbin. “It is a pleasure to act as a resource and build a relationship with the business community.”
