County Executive Leggett’s Remarks at the 2017 Resident Survey Press Event

Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe Street, CAO CR, Rockville

As prepared

Good morning!

It has been very clear that from the beginning of my administration I have put a priority on inclusiveness, and value input from our residents. From public budget forums to live online discussions, I have alawys invited everyone to have a “seat at the table” so their voice can be heard.

One powerful tool to collect resident feedback is the County-wide Resident Survey. We last conducted such a survey in 2009 and unfortunately it fell, among other things, to the budget ax in the recession years.

I am pleased to announce today that we have brought back the Resident Survey.

Last month, the 2017 Resident Survey was mailed to 5,000 randomly selected households across Montgomery County, asking a wide range of questions about our residents’ feelings towards their quality of life; County services and amenities; public safety; transportation; education; and a host of other issues.

The survey could be taken in English, Spanish or Chinese and all responses are completely confidential.

The goal of the mailed survey is to generate a scientifically valid random sample of our population, but because of that desire for inclusiveness, for the first time, we are opening up the survey to ALL Montgomery County residents age 18 and older.

This opt-in survey is available online only and is identical to the mailed survey. It can be taken in English, Spanish or Chinese and responses are completely confidential.

The results will be analyzed alongside, but also separate from, the random-sample data and will provide additional data for analysis and consideration to help gauge progress, set priorities and allocate resources.

The survey link will be open for next two weeks only, from today through Wednesday, November 15th. I highly encourage each of you to go to: “bit” dot “ly” slash “MCMD2017” before November 15th to let your voice be heard!

Thank you!
