County Executive Leggett’s Remarks at the Ribbon Cutting for the Friends of the Library Early Literacy Installation

Silver Spring Library, 900 Wayne Avenue, Silver Spring

As prepared

Good afternoon!

It is a pleasure to be here today to celebrate this new addition to our Silver Spring Library.

It is always good to be among such a great and passionate group of Library Lovers.

Without question, our Friends of the Libraries in Montgomery County is one of the largest and most successful Friends group in the country.

Friends of the Library promotes lifelong learning in Montgomery County and provides funding to enhance programming and materials for our libraries.

In 2013 the Friends of the Library Silver Spring began raising funds for a new bookmobile and alphabet whirligig tower for the children.

We are here today to cut the ribbon and celebrate this new play area that builds on our children’s resources here at the Silver Spring Library.

I want to thank the hundreds of volunteers who support our libraries. I recognize that one of our greatest County resources are those who give their time to support our programs.

Thank you to Congressman Jamie Raskin and Delegate Shelia Hixon for their leadership and sponsorship of the bond bill.

I also want to thank the Acting Director of Public Libraries, Anita Vassallo, and all the library staff.

Thank you for coming out for this fun celebration!
